Shadow Puppets

The 4th graders wrote scary stories in early October. We used the settings and characters of these stories to make scenery and puppets for a Shadow Puppet Theatre. Mr. Subler taught the 4th graders about Chinese Shadow Puppets and taught them how to make puppets with moving parts. The 4th graders performed their stories using their puppets on Friday to celebrate Halloween. What a perfect project to share on a spooky morning!

Thank you Mr. Subler for all your help!!!

Our 1st Grade Buddies!

We had some spooky fun this week with our 1st Grade Buddies from Mrs. Anderson's class. We read a story called "Spooky Hour", made a black cat out of paper, and wrote silly spells. We can't wait for our next fun project with our 1st grade buddies!

Leonardo Da Vinci

We have been talking about inventions this week while reading "The Kids' Invention Book". Leonardo Da Vinci isn't just famous for his painting, the "Mona Lisa", he always is remembered for his detailed drawings of his inventions. Here are some great links to check out:

Darth Vader

Mrs. Kanas had an exciting week this week!

A kitten was running around my condo building in the cold and snow and I have been trying to catch her for a few days. A woman who runs an animal shelter let me borrow a "cat trap" to try and catch the kitten. The cat trap closes when the cat walks through to eat the food on the other end, not hurting the kitten of course! I finally caught the kitten, which Mr. Kanas named Vader. My students were very excited when I told them I had finally caught the kitten. Vader is going to spend a week at the shelter getting fixed up and going to the vet to make sure she is healthy. When she is ready, we are going to see if Jango Fett (my cat) gets along with her. She is a cutie...here is a picture of her! By the way, I have no idea if Vader is really a "her"...it might be a "he"...we will see!
